Design Philosophy |
Vernacular design: Contextual--must ‘fit in’ and have a sense of place; Native materials, indigenous forms, organic-based. |
The small house: Efficiency of design, Economy, Social benefits. Careful assessment of building program to discard unnecessary space. |
Simple, economical forms, but, quality design & detailing: truth in materials--no ‘false’ detailing |
Sustainable design: Use of recycled products where possible (reclaimed wood, metal roofing, timbers, etc.) |
Budget: any home can be designed within a given budget and still be a unique living space. Importance of client input—the design must incorporate the occupant’s needs. It must transform from a building into a home. |
